The weather reports suggested that the conditions were going to be dicey; and ironically they were right…
Strong south winds kicked up the waves early, but the crew wanted to fish…. It was a bumpy ride from the beginning and it got bumpier as the day went on.
With all of the days challenges, we managed to put together a nice full cooler of King and Coho Salmon. All of the Kings that were captured weighed in well above 10lbs. The highlight of the day was pulling in this 20LB brute who put up one heck of a fight. The battle lasted nearly 20 minutes and we finally got him in, we discovered that he had swallowed TWO baits! Talk about greedy!
We called it quits after this guy came in… By then the seas were starting to pick up again to the point where it might get dangerous.
The fish are BIG this year. Not only the Kings, but the cohos as well. I have seen a few 10LB cohos and there was one that was 15lbs! What ever the DNR did to create this season, I hope they keep up the good work! This is a great King bloom this year!
